NMFS Determines Petition to List White Marlin as Endangered or Threatened is Unwarranted

On January 30, 2012, The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) released the 90-day finding in response to two petitions to list white marlin (Kajikia albidus) as either a threatened or endangered species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The report concluded that the information presented in the petitions was not substantial scientific information indicating white marlin needed the listing of either threatened or endangered under the ESA. This is an important determindation because of the negative impacts potentially resulting for the recreational fishing industry if white marlin is listed as either.    Read More
